Stockton Town Ladies picked up their first ever win in the North East Women’s Regional Football League with a strong victory at Redcar Town.
Bouncing back from a difficult defeat in the final qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup last weekend, the Anchors motivated to lift spirits in an undoubtedly difficult test on the road.
It was only two years ago, when hosts Redcar Town were slenderly defeated by Middlesbrough in the County Cup final, despite leading for a majority of the match.
After a dominant opening to the game, it took until the stroke of half-time for Stockton to find the net, with the ever-impressive Talia Korucu leading a break down the wing, playing a cross into Ellie Patterson who finished wonderfully into the bottom corner.
Chris Murphy’s side had a second early in the second-half, when Anna Murphy played Chloe McKinnell in-behind, leaving the young midfielder with an easy finish into the corner.
The Ladies had a third just before the final whistle, when Colby Hobson played an incredible, defensive-splitting through ball into the path of Grace Campbell, who finished really well for her first goal since returning to the club in summer.
Youngster Hobson, who made the step-up from the Reserve team ahead of the fixture, started in midfield and was named as Player of the Game with a mega performance in the middle.
The Ladies are back at the MAP Group UK Stadium on Sunday when Hartlepool United visit in league action. Entry is free for all, with the match kicking off at 2pm.
