MATCH REPORT

Stockton Town FC v Warrington Rylands

Stockton Town produced a superb second half performance to secure an important home win over Warrington Rylands.

Kev Hayes penalty put the Anchors ahead early, but Warrington responded quickly through Blackburn loanee Harry Wood.

Early in the second half, Stockton took back the lead when Josh Scott’s low ball was turned in by a Rylands defender.

The win was sealed when Jake Petitjean threaded his way through before he finished confidently past the goalkeeper.

Stockton Town came into the game looking for another solid performance after defeating Lancaster on the road last week.

Michael Dunwell was forced into two changes to his side as Cam Painter and Owen Gallacher came into the starting XI for Ryan Barrett and Vinnie Steels.

Stockton took the lead from the spot. Petitjean was brought down and Hayes converted past Rylands goalkeeper Luke Pilling.

The visitors responded in swift and devastating fashion. A fine sweeping move forward was finished off well by Wood.

As they had back in February, Warrington Rylands looked to come from behind. They had two big chances as George Waring had a goalbound header turned over by Adam Nicholson, and Alex Kiwomya did the hard part when he rounded Nathan Harker but his effort was blocked on the line by Harker.

Half-Time: Stockton Town 1-1 Warrington Rylands.

Stockton looked bright and ready to go early in the second half. They reaped early endeavors when Scott’s low ball was turned into the net by an unfortunate Rylands defender.

The Anchors were confident and looked to increase their advantage. A slick move ended with King having his effort blocked, and Hayes tried an audacious lob which dropped wide.

Rylands were not as presence as much they were in the first half, but they echoed in the background. A half chance saw Harker relied on to block at the near post.

Stockton could breathe with 15 minutes remaining when Hayes put the ball towards Petitjean and he controlled expertly before he finished with confidence.

The win could have been emphatic but Pilling pulled out a superb stop to deny Scott’s drive on goal.
