Stockton Town’s Play-Off pursuit continues with the visit of promotion hopefuls FC United of Manchester.

The Anchors are yet to face FC United this season with the reverse fixture having been postponed multiple times due to inclement weather.

They head into the fixture on the back of a frustrating goalless draw at Leek Town last Saturday. Stockton controlled much of it but clear cut chances were lacking.

THE OPPOSITION

Following last season’s disappointing bottom half finish, FC United are back competing near the top and currently occupy third, just three points from the summit.

Mark Beesley, who masterminded Warrington Town’s promotion to the National League North via the Play-Offs in 2023, has the Red Rebels third in the form table which is just below Stockton. Their latest triumph came with a 4-0 drubbing of Stocksbridge Park Steels last Saturday.

There is Premier League experience in the side in former Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom and ex-Reading forward Adam Le Fondre. Commonly referred to as ALF, he’s enjoying a much more fruitful campaign than his first with the club having scored double-digits thus far.

That experience is complimented by exciting wide players in Jay Fitzmartin and Matthew Grivosti both of whom were among the goals in the win over Stocksbridge.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Michael Dunwell looked ahead to the game: “It’s going to be a massive game. We still haven’t played that away game yet (trip to FC United of Manchester) so we have the home game first. They’ll probably bring a lot of fans and it will be a great atmosphere.

“It’s a big game, you want to be involved in these games at this stage of the season. Luckily for us we have been in the last few seasons. Hopefully we put in another good performance and get the finishing touch to the pressure on them and the others at the top of the table.”
