Stockton Town return to league action Tuesday night as they make the long trip to Staffordshire to face Hednesford Town.
The Anchors originally made the trip back on October 7th, but floodlight issues caused the game to be postponed after Stockton had arrived.
As a goodwill gesture, Stockton fans have the opportunity to attend the game for free (for more see above).
Stockton head into the game on the back of their Isuzu FA Trophy First Round exit at Clitheroe. The Anchors had led 2-0, but a crazy first half spell saw them trail 3-2 at the break.
Despite holding a man advantage after the dismissal of Dylan Dwyer for a second yellow, Stockton conceded a further goal to go down 4-2. A bitterly disappointing afternoon which made it back-to-back defeats.
Michael Dunwell will welcome back Adam Nicholson and Michael Sweet back into the team.
THE OPPOSITION
Hednesford Town are known to Teessiders for their FA Cup Fourth Round meeting with Middlesbrough back in 1997. The tie, which was switched to the Riverside to maximise revenue, ended in a 3-2 win for Boro who would go on to reach the final that season. Although the Pitmen did take the lead through Joe O’Connor.
Hednesford were in the Conference back then, but aside from three seasons in the Conference North they have been in the NPL and Southern League since 2001.
They slipped into Step 4 in 2023 following relegation from the Southern Premier Central and almost made the double drop to Step 5 in 2024 but were reprieved from relegation.
Last season, led by current manager Gavin Hurren, they defiantely returned to Step Three with promotion via the Play-Offs by defeating Congleton Town in the Play-Off.
This season they are highly fancied to contest for an open league title and currently lie in the 5th. The pressure has been ramped up on the Pitmen, with fans voicing their concerns after the goalless draw at Lancaster City last Saturday. That came on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Whitby Town.
There’s plenty of EFL experience in the squad with defender Chris Hussey, midfielders Jos Labadie, Kieron Freeman and striker Jake Jervis all having turned out in it.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This will be the first-ever meeting between Hednesford Town and Stockton Town.
