Tricky winger Vinnie Steels becomes the Anchors’ third signing of the summer.
Vinnie started his career in the youth teams at Sunderland and Darlington, before earning a move to York City as 16-year-old in 2017, where he spent a season, including making appearances with the first team.
He then was picked up by Burnley whilst they were in the Premier League, here he spent time between the Claret’s U18 and U23 sides.
After a year with Burnley, he made the move back to Sunderland where he eventually shined in their U23 side, scoring twice against his former team in one of his first games at Sunderland.
In 2022, he joined Shildon in search of regular men’s football, as they looked to build on a 5th place finish in the NPL East Division. Despite a relegation for the Railwaymen in 22/23, Steels stood out.
The winger made 36 appearances, scoring five and creating plenty more at only 20 years old, catching the eye of Morpeth Town, making another step up to the NPL Premier Division.
He went on to make 38 appearances in his debut season with the Highwaymen, again scoring five, whilst splitting his minutes between the wing and full back position. Unfortunately, at the start of the 2024/25 season, Vinnie tore his ACL, cutting his season short, making only seven appearances.
Now, still at just 23 years of age, he will look to get back to full strength with the Anchors, providing pace and technicality to the wide positions for Michael Dunwell’s side.
