INTERVIEW | Vinnie Steels after his Stockton Town debut

Vinnie Steels spoke to Stockton Town media after his long-awaited Stockton Town debut.

The winger was a second-half substitute, making his Anchors debut in front of the impressive home crowd.

He opened by reviewing the game, and the great result as a whole: “It was a great game. I thought we dominated for most parts and deserved the win. The lads were class all game long and I thought we were unlucky not to score more.”

Vinnie then followed by exclaiming his delight on being back on the pitch following 370 days out of action with an ACL tear: “Yeah it felt so good to be back on the pitch after so long. I’m now really looking forward to getting fully up to speed and help the lads, who’ve started the season really well.”

The debut has been months in the making since joining the club back in May, and he describes that recovery process by stating: “It’s been really hard. Training on my own, watching for a long time wondering when I’ll be back, but Sam [Higgins] has been a massive help getting me back and I honestly can’t thank him enough.”

Steels closed by looking ahead to what’s next, now he’s back on the field, starting with Saturday’s trip to Cleethorpes Town: “Now, I just want to build up my minutes game-by-game and contribute to performances like that, and hopefully come the end of the season we are where we all want to be.”

Anchors fans can catch Vinnie and the squad in action in Lincolnshire on Saturday, by booking their place on the M&D Travel supporters coach here.
