INTERVIEW | Harry Christy post Rushall Olympic

Stand-in goalkeeper Harry Christy spoke to Stockton Town media following the Anchors’ 2-2 draw at Rushall Olympic.

The former Leeds United prodigy made his second appearance in a Stockton shirt, following a strong performance at Gainsborough Trinity in midweek. Harry opened by reviewing how enjoyable those two games have been: “It’s been absolutely brilliant. Better than I could have imagined. It’s been really enjoyable and the lads have been really good to me since I came in.

It was far from easy, meeting them all for the first time on the coach to Gainsborough, but I really have enjoyed every second and if I’m needed for more games, I look forward to that as well, but if I don’t, I certainly won’t forget these couple of games.”

The shot-stopper made a number of top drawer saves in the match on Saturday, including a finger-tip stop in the dying moments of the game, and when reviewing his performance, he said: “It was good. There was things I could have done better, on the second goal especially, but I’m really happy with some of the saves and I definitely enjoyed that last one too.”

Stockton, missing a man for most of the game, fought hard to find an equaliser, and Christy explains how the atmosphere at half-time helped the fight in the second-half: “The atmosphere was really good, players were positive, the manager clearly believed that we could get back into it, he told us to believe in ourselves, so when we came out for the second-half there was no doubt in our mind that we had the ability and the team spirit to get back into it, and we showed that. We never got our heads down and came out really positive, and I think it showed.”

With Nathan Harker’s return for Monday afternoon’s Bank Holiday clash with Morpeth Town still in doubt, Harry closed by looking ahead to a possible appearance in front of the Anchors home fans: “When I got the call saying I’d be needed for two away games, quite far away, you think, it’ll of course be good but what you really want is a game in front of the home support, so I’m buzzing for the possibility of that, and hopefully fight for my first three points with the team as well.”

That game against Morpeth is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off at the MAP Group UK Stadium, as the Anchors look for their second win of the season.
