Amar Purewal spoke to Stockton Town Club media following the Anchors’ 4-1 victory over Hebburn Town.
Amar made the move from Tyneside down to Teesside in summer, and played a significant role in his new team’s victory over his former side.
The forward opened by providing his assessment on the matchup: “I thought it was the best we’ve played whilst I’ve been here. Even though they got that early goal, after that we responded well and there only looked like there was going to be one winner.”
We stepped all over them and looked threatening from every set piece we had, and that ended up being a big difference maker.”
“Hebburn are going well, they’re well managed and I’ll always have a lot of respect for them, but it’s clear that we beat a really, really good side and hopefully we can kick on from this.”
Hopefully it can be our time now to go on a similar run to what Hebburn were on, and keep the pressure on the top.”
Stockton had a very strong second-half display, and Amar talks through what was said at half-time to motivate that response: “We were told to take care of the ball and we’ll get chances. Their goal came from losing the ball in a bad area, which is something we’ve worked on avoiding so we just had to put that right quickly.”
You could feel shooting towards the shed in that second half, the momentum shifted and when we got that second goal that we wanted to get early in the half, there was only going to be one winner.”
He also took the time to review his own performances as of late, where impressive displays have gone under the radar: “Strikers get judged on goals, but in the last few games I feel as though I’m not getting the rub of the green a little bit.
I’ve had three disallowed goals in the last three games and I need to see the one back from this game, and I felt I timed it well.”
As long as the team is winning, that matters the most, I’m sure my goals will come, and although you can’t say that forever, I’ve just got to keep getting into the positions that I feel I’ve been doing well recently, and when we have more games like this, which we will, I’ll get a few goals myself.”
Purewal closes by looking ahead to the next clash, where the Anchors open 2026 with a trip to Morpeth Town, saying; “It’s building blocks. We’re doing well, we’ve had a couple of clean sheets, then a couple of wins, this time a real dominant showing and it’s all coming together.”
Hopefully we can just keep snowballing that into more and more wins.”
