Adam Nicholson reacted to the Anchors’ comeback victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday.
The skipper put in a captains performance, tallying a goal and an assist to spark the comeback.
“We got out of jail after our first-half performance, but it is all about reaction. Nothing comes easy in this league, especially at this stage of the season, and we needed that win after what’s been a really tough week on the back of the result, and the performance, last weekend.
“First half seemed to be a bit of a hangover from that game [against Trafford] but the second-half I can’t fault any of the lads. We’ve changed it up, went for it and I thought we were absolutely outstanding to a man.”
‘Adi’ spent a majority of the second-half playing in an overlapping role, registering his goal and assist from that, and he assess that by stating: “It was difficult. But honestly I’m just so happy to be back I will do whatever is asked of me to get results.
“It’s been a tough summer, and I’m really starting to notice myself getting that fitness back to where it needs to be. It’s a little bit of a different role to last season, and I’m just trying to influence games however I can.”
He then provided a description of what Manager Michael Dunwell said to encourage the second-half fight back during his half-time talk: “He told us exactly what we knew. We were miles off.
“We knew we had to regroup and go and prove a point to him, and we went and gave the reaction that he wanted from us.”
The centre-half closed by looking ahead to Tuesday night’s trip to Whitby Town, exclaiming: “It’s probably an ideal way to win it ahead of a midweek game, but now we’ve got to take this momentum into Tuesday.
“The lads are all buzzing with it, and we’ve got to take the second-half performance into the game. We’ve sort of done it in spells all season, we’ve not been in complete control of enough games, but you can see in those spells that it is there, we just need to make that more consistent and deliver that over longer periods in game and we’ll be fine.
“You can tell there is so much quality in this squad, and we’ve just got to find that right mix to make it more consistent.”
