Glen Butterworth reacts to Whitby Town draw

Anchors midfielder Glen Butterworth spoken following his sides’ goalless draw with Whitby Town in the final pre-season encounter.

Glen opened by overviewing the matchup, stating: “I thought we did well. We’ve hit the bar a couple of times, had plenty of chances, Shane Bland made some excellent saves, I think going forward next week and for the season as a whole we just need to be more clinical as we’re defending really well, holding it well, creating plenty of chances which is the main thing.”

The midfielder, who entered the action as a second half substitute, also added how well the team has gelled with the new additions throughout the seven pre-season games: “The new boys have looked brilliant. They’re joining what already was a team with lots of chemistry and even though it has been a tough pre-season, we’ve all got plenty of minutes into the legs and we have a lot of positives to take into next week.”

‘Butty’ then spoke highly on the Anchors new home shirt, which was debuted in the Whitby affair: “I think it’s really nice. It’s always great to get a new kit and I wasn’t here during the photographs so it’s the first time I had properly seen it and it was especially great to see how many fans were already in it!”

He closed by looking ahead to next week’s important clash with Prescot Cables, where the Anchors open their 2025/26 Northern Premier League campaign: “It’ll be a very tough game. We played them very late last season and it was a bobbly, hard pitch on a very hot day so we’re expecting it to be the same next weekend. They’re a very hard working team with a good fanbase and it’ll be a very difficult test, but hopefully our quality will show and the goals will come so we can get all three points.”
