Striker Michael Sweet says he is ‘buzzing’ after scoring the first goal of Stockton Town’s season.
The Play-Off final hero netted the opener in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Leek Town- a goal that the first to be scored overall in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
“Buzzing to get the first goal and to get my myself going.
“When I got the ball I was surprised when I got that half a yard and there was no one near me so I thought I would get my strike off early and luckily I found the bottom corner,” Sweet said.
Sweet was given the starting role but his fellow striker Michael Fowler also scored with the sealing goal at the end.
Sweet believes they push each other on: “We both want each other to do well and score. He’s had one chance there and he’s put it away. That shows his qualities.
“He’s a quality player and I am buzzing for him.”
Despite the long journey the Anchors were backed by a fine contingent of fans who occupied a section behind the goal.
Sweet was full of praise: “They’re always great. They turn up in their numbers and they are vocal and it pushes us on week in and week out.”
Stockton continue an action packed August on Wednesday night when they welcome Guiseley to the MAP Group UK Stadium.
It’s a game that Sweet is looking forward to: “We have got to take each game as it comes and just try to start fast again come out the blocks early and do well.”
