Stockton Town win thriller to cap a profitable September

Stockton Town ended the month on a high, in complete contrast to how it started, with their 4th league win in the last 5 matches against another top 8 side in Seaham Red Star

Stockton made a bright start and took the lead after six minutes when Sonni Colemans header over the defence was collected by Owens who lobbed it over the keeper and rolled it home. Seaham could have equalised almost straight away but for a brave block by Poole from a Bailey volley. Chances came and went at both ends in another exciting
attacking game at Bishopton Rd West. Owens extended the lead just before half time, with a glancing header from a corner.

Red Star started the second half determined to get back into the game and Munro headed home Crofts free kick to make it 2-1 after 50mins. Both sides had opportunities to score after that and The Anchors defence had to be at its best to deny SRS an equaliser especially in the final 10 minutes with Arthur pulling off one terrific stop at the feet of Munro.

Garbutt, Hayes and Stockton all had chances to finish the game off and sub Posthill did brilliantly to create an opening for himself only to miss the target narrowly.

Stockton find themselves up to 14th in Div 1 which looked unlikely on Sept 1st. Huge credit to the players and management team for the hard work that’s gone into turning things round. After a string of Home matches we are on the road mostly in the next 6 weeks so lets hope the team will kick on and maintain this position.
