Stockton Town sign Striker Michael Sweet

Stockton Town are delighted to announce the arrival of Striker Michael Sweet.

Sweet arrives after spending the last three years with Shildon where he netted 29 goals in 98 appearances. Prior to that he played at Gateshead, Darlington, Billingham Synthonia, Consett and Blyth Spartans.

It was at Consett where he enjoyed a particularly prolific spell with 128 goals in 173 games.

On signing, Sweet said: “The management team have been wanting me for a couple of seasons now and due to my contract ending at Shildon I just felt like it was the perfect timing for me to come to Stockton after speaking with Michael (Dunwell)  JD (Briggs) and the chairman. It was a no brainer for me and a very easy decision.”

Sweet continued: “The fan base is huge and I would love to play in front of a good crowd and the facilities are obviously fantastic.”

Manager Michael Dunwell was thrilled to finally seal the signature of player he has been wanting for some time.

Dunwell said: “We’ve been trying to sign Michael for the last 3/4 seasons but it just hasn’t worked out. We know from sitting down with him how much he wanted to come to Stockton, which makes it easier when signing players.

“He is a player who has done well against us especially when at Consett, has excellent movement, can get hold of the ball but also run in behind.

“We feel we can get the best out of him and he’s looking forward to the challenge. With us needing more goals from this area again he adds this to our squad.”
