Stockton Town land midfielder Glen Butterworth

Stockton Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Glen Butterworth from Marske United.

Butterworth was a midfield stalwart for the Seasiders where he amassed almost 400 appearances in ten years at the club.

He was originally brought to the club in 2013 by manager Carl Jarrett who had worked with him during his time at Billingham Town.

Along with midfield partner Craig Gott for the majority of his time with Marske he was part of the team that won two Northern League titles which led to promotion to the Northern Premier League and then promotion to the Premier Division at the expense of the Anchors in last season’s Play-Off Final.

Speaking on his arrival, Butterworth said: “I am excited to get going with the lads, and I felt I was ready for a new challenge.

“It is a bittersweet feeling, and it is hard leaving a club after ten years, but I felt it was the right time to move on and Stockton were the only club to come to mind.”

Stockton Town were in need of another midfielder following the season-ending injury to Shane Henry in the pre-season game at Norton & Stockton Ancients.

Manager Michael Dunwell gave his thoughts after landing the midfielder: “Glen is a great signing for us and will only make us stronger in the midfield department.

“He has experience at this level and won promotion which we knows a lot about. He likes to get on the ball, create and score goals and will bring real quality to the squad.”

Glen Butterworth will be ready and available to feature in tomorrow’s game at Brighouse Town.
