Stockton Town Ladies make history on Sunday as they make their FA Cup debut with a trip to Redcar Town- 2pm Kick-Off.
The Anchoresses only re-started last season and achieved a 5th-place finish in their debut campaign.
Highlights in the campaign included a 4-0 thrashing of Hebburn Town and an 8-0 win over Horden on the final day.
Moving into the FA Cup is another step forward in development.
“It’s fantastic for the Ladies to represent the club in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup for the first time,” Manager Chris Murphy said.
“We started out as a new squad ahead of last season and the aim was to grow year by year and being able to compete in such a historic competition in our second season is an honour and privilege.”
They face a stern test with a trip to a side from the North East Regional League North- the league above Stockton Town. Although Town are coming into the season following a miserable season which saw them relegated from the Premier Division.
Stockton Town have already met Redcar Town in Pre-Season and that day they played out a 3-3 draw.
“We played out a 3-3 draw with Redcar in Pre-Season and as the scoreline suggests it was an end-to-end encounter,” Murphy recounted.
“They have a good blend of youth and experienced players to choose from and they like to get the ball forward early which is something we need to guard against.
“The game will certainly be a big test but it’s one we are looking forward to.”
During the Summer, the Ladies team added six new players including Jasmie Wells, Demi-Leigh Tapping, Milly McNamee and Holly Williams. All could make their debut for the Ladies in the historic season curtain raiser.
The game takes place on Sunday at Redcar Town’s Mo Mowlam Memorial Park and entry is £2. The Ladies would really appreciate the support.
