Proud Murphy after debut FA Cup win for Ladies

Stockton Town Ladies Manager Chris Murphy spoke of his pride after the Anchoresses booked their place in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round with victory at Redcar Town.

Their season opener, and their debut in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, started in excellent fashion as last season’s star Talia Korucu picked up where she left off with a rifled finish into the bottom corner following a good move.

Stockton continued to take the game to their higher division opponents and doubled their lead when Anna Murphy, who was named the Player of the Match, fired in from the edge of the box.

The Anchoresses remained resilient in the second half and managed to keep a clean sheet intact.

They held on for a historic first-ever win in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and will now face Sunderland West End at home on Sunday 22nd September.

“Excellent result for the Ladies and the Club, I am proud of the performance,” Chris Murphy said post match.

“In the first half our attacking play caused Redcar numerous issues with some outstanding passages of play in the final third.

“Second half we had to stand firm when Redcar tried to put pressure on us.

“Overall it was a great performance with some fantastic individual performances in there.”

Another wonderful milestone in the history of Stockton Town, and a fantastic achievement for our Ladies team.

They begin their league campaign on Sunday 15th September when they welcome Darlington Spraire Ladies to the MAP Group UK Stadium.
