‘Mixed emotions’ for Stephenson after Anchors debut

Stockton Town Goalkeeper Elliott Stephenson had ‘mixed emotions’ following his debut at home to Macclesfield.

The Summer signing was deputising for Nathan Harker who was away for the fixture.

It was his first competitive game of football in over a year.

“I had mixed emotions on that one, obviously it was a big game and a big spectacle for the fans,” Stephenson said.

“I did make some good saves but I think my kicking and distribution didn’t show me in the best light.”

“It was my first game in a while coming back from an injury, so I feel like I will get there in the end.”

Stephenson came up big with an excellent tip onto the bar in the closing stages to keep the game at 1-0.

“It was a good reaction save. Things in and around me I feel comfortable with,” Stephenson remarked.

It was some game to make his Anchors debut. A huge backing with the majority of the 1,419 firmly behind Stockton.

He has already felt the Anchors support, “They were very supportive behind the goal and were always giving us positive words which is good for a keeper when put into that kind of situation.”
