After seven years, 261 appearances and 91 goals, Mikey Roberts departs Stockton Town.
A Stockton lad, Roberts arrived at his hometown club just months after being on the opposite side of the infamous FA Vase Semi-Final against Marske United.
He got off to an excellent start, scoring on his debut at Shildon, and added a further 17 goals to hit a tally of 18 that season.
His best campaign in front of goal came in 2019-20 when he scored 19 goals as he played an instrumental part in Stockton Town reaching the play-offs in their debut season in the Northern Premier League.
Reflecting on his time with the club, Roberts said: “It’s been an incredible seven years. To represent my hometown club through so much success has been very special to me, and I leave with the best memories.”
Asked for his favourite memories, he added: “There have been some incredible moments — on a personal note, like scoring the winning penalty in the play-off semi-final a few years back. Scoring in the play-off final last season against Dunston to start the comeback in that incredible final that eventually saw us promoted.”
Mikey Roberts will be fondly remembered by the fans as someone who gave his all for the Anchors, a player who bridges the gap between our time as a Northern League club and an established NPL outfit.
His message to the fans: “Thank you for always backing the team. The support is incredible, and with your support this club can go from strength to strength and reach the levels we all know it is capable of. Keep turning up in your numbers and singing loud and proud! Thanks for everything, every single one of you. UTA!”
On the departing Roberts, Michael Dunwell said:
“Mikey has been an excellent player for the club. Working with him for the past seven or eight years has been an absolute pleasure. He’s gone through two promotions with us during that time and played a major part in them—with his goals, assists, and tireless work rate. He’s not only been a great player, but also a good mate, and it’s sad to see him go. He hasn’t played as much as he would have liked this year, and unfortunately, the tough decision was made for him to leave. He will be missed, and we wish him all the best in the future, wherever he goes.”
Best of luck to Mikey Roberts from everybody at Stockton Town.
