Stockton Town travelled to Cumbria looking to collect their second knockout Trophy of this season and there third with the League Championship.
Stockton produced a fantastic performance to come away with a 2-0 win at Cleator Moor Celtic. This victory saw Stockton win the Monkwearmouth Cup for the 1st time in their history and in doing so went through the whole competition without conceding a goal, a feat they also achieved in the Shipowners Cup.
Stephen Roberts tested the Cleator goalkeeper Craig Devine after 10 minutes, but Devine in Cleators goal was out to block quickly. Stockton’s pressure told on 20 minutes though following a right wing corner. Max Craggs drove a ball in aimed at captain Stav Roberts, his flick on was turned home from 6 yards by top goal scorer Kallum Hannah to record his 54th goal of the season.
Stockton were now well on top and Max Craggs scored Stockton’s second goal with a powerful 35 yard shot that Devine got a hand to the ball but the force of the shot sent the ball into the net after 29 minutes.
Craggs almost got his second when Hannah passed to Craggs whose shot beat Devine but Craig Scott on the line turned the ball around the post.
Another goalmouth clearance came latter in the game when Adam Nicholson headed towards goal but Josh Charlton scrambled off the line.
Stockton restricted Cleator Moor to set pieces and Michael Arthur in Stockton’s goal only had one attempt on goal to deal with a free kick from Dunn. At the other end Stockton were a constant threat to the Cleator goal with Hannah, Priestley, Garbutt and Colemans movement craving out numerous chances, but a third goal just wouldn’t come.
So Stockton recorded their first win at Cleator Moor at the 6th attempt to lift the Monkwearmouth Cup.
