Stockton without Tom Coulthard who sits out his 1 match suspension, played a lively Spennymoor Town Reserves side that included 4 members of the 1st Team squad including Club Captain Lewis Dodds. Unlike last weeks game at Silksworth, this was an open entertaining encounter with some quality football played by both sides. Despite the open play there was few clear cut chances in the first half, the best of which fell to Stockton Town after 13 minutes, Chris Stockton was one on one with the Spennymoor keeper Adam McHugh, Stocko’s attempt had the keeper going full stretch to tip the ball around the post, the first half ended goalless. Ross Morrow of Spennymoor should have opened the scoring after 58 minutes when he was allowed to shoot across the face of goal but it also beat the far post. Stockton retaliated in the 61st minute a Kallum Hannah shot was half saved by McHugh, the ball went to Macauley Langstaff , his first time attempt had the keeper reacting smartly to save the second shot with his feet. Stockton took the lead when a brilliant piece of football saw Kallum Hannah opened the scoring after 68 minutes. Macaulay Langstaff chased back to win the ball on the half way line, drove forward before releasing Max Craggs down the right, his driven cross was met with a first time chest lay off by Stav Roberts to Hannah who volleyed home first time, to give McHugh no chance. In this end to end encounter it was no surprise that Spennymoor were level a minute later, with Stockton looking for a second goal, Spennymoor managed to clear the ball downfield for John McCready to fire past Michael Arthur. Stockton didn’t leave it to regain the lead , Hannah managed to get his second goal of this game and his 44th of the season, when his overhead shot saw the ball fly into the top corner of the net in the 75th minute.
Langstaff could have made the score more comfortable for Stockton after 88 minutes, with the keeper off his line he tried to chip the ball over his head, the keeper raced back towards his line and just managed to tip the ball over the bar. Stockton held on to the 2-1 score line to record our 9th double of the season.
