Stockton Town slipped back into the relegation zone following a narrow defeat to Curzon Ashton.
Jimmy Spencer’s first half header was enough to earn the three points for the visiting Nash.
Michael Dunwell named the same Starting XI as last Saturday’s 5-0 win at Whitby Town. That meant Reuben Egan and Kian Foreman made their home debuts. Cam Painter also marked his 200th appearance as an Anchor.
Ahead of Remembrance Sunday tomorrow the Royal British Legion conducted a Ceremony before the kick-off.
Curzon had the game’s first effort when full-back Timi Sobowale came forward and fizzed a long strike wide.
Stockton then went close when Foreman sent in a cross-shot which narrowly evaded Adam Nicholson at the back post.
The Anchors then produced a neat passing exchange which ended with a low strike wide from Owen Gallacher.
It was Curzon Ashton who opened the scoring on the half hour mark when Jimmy Spencer glanced in a header following a short corner routine.
Stockton looked for a response and almost made an immediate one. Foreman sent in an inviting cross which was almost poked in by Gallacher at the back post but he was denied by Aidan Dowling.
Another strike came close when excellent hold up play by Frank Nouble saw him lay the ball back to Harley Dawson who sent an awkward effort wide.
Curzon then almost doubled their lead but Egan was sharp to dive at the feet of an attacker to prevent a goal.
Right before the half-time whistle Stockton almost drew level when Painter headed down for Foreman but his well-timed volley flashed wide of the target.
Half-Time: Stockton Town 0-1 Curzon Ashton
At the start of the second half, Foreman again looked dangerous when he cut inside and clipped an effort wide.
Foreman then sent in a promising corner to the near post which was nodded wide by Nouble.
Just after the hour mark, Dunwell turned to his bench and brought on Josh Scott and Jake Petitjean in a hunt for the leveller.
Nouble glanced a header wide from a chipped cross, before Petitjean had a low strike at an angle which was held by Dowling.
Dowling was then forced into a more challenging save. Young provided a nice lay-off for Petitjean who fired in a low strike which had to be turned behind.
Curzon almost secured the win with a rare foray into the second half but a pink shirt was unable to slide the ball in after it was played across.
A goal continued to be elusive for Stockton, Foreman sent in a cross from the right but Josh Baggs couldn’t force the ball beyond Dowling from close range.
Curzon really should have had the game wrapped up when Harvey Roberts found himself one-on-one but his effort struck the post and Egan denied the rebound.
The Anchors had a huge chance to snatch a point when Petitjean’s lofted ball towards the box was headed across by Jaedon Faulkner but Nicholson sent it high over the bar.
Full-Time: Stockton Town 0-1 Curzon Ashton
It’s a quick return to action on Tuesday night with a first-ever trip to Quorn.
