LIVE COMMENTARY: Anchors Radio (mixlr.com)
Stockton Town are in action under MAP Group UK Stadium lights when they host Workington on Wednesday night.
The Anchors began their six game home stand on Saturday with an excellent 3-0 win over Mickleover.
All the work was done in the first half as goals from Michael Sweet, Tom Coulthard and Mikey Roberts saw them past their Derbyshire opponents.
That result propelled them into the Play-Off places, and they are currently in fourth ahead of the visit of Workington.
It is hoped Shane Henry may return to the squad after he suffered a shoulder injury, while the long awaited return of Kev Hayes has been teased by management.
THE OPPOSITION
Workington are in their second season back in the Northern Premier League Premier Division following promotion via the NPL West Play-Offs in 2023.
Manager Mark Fell is in his first season in charge of the Reds having taken the reins from Danny Grainger in the summer. Fell has extensive experience in the NPL Premier Division having served as the Lancaster City manager between 2018 and 2023.
Despite their bottom half standing of 15th, Workington have been in good form of late and Saturday saw their five-match winning streak ended at Hyde United. Twice they came from behind to draw level through Steven Rigg and Kai Nugent but Hyde won it in the end through a stoppage time penalty from Jack Redshaw.
In defence they have some international class in Efe Ambrose. The former Celtic defender was capped 51 times by Nigeria and recently made the switch from Bury.
David Symington is the lynchpin of the side. The ex-Carlisle United midfielder bagged 27 goals from midfield as the Reds ended the campaign in 17th. This season he has four to his name.
The aforementioned Rigg who worked his way up the pyramid during his early career from Keswick to Carlisle United is the club’s top scorer with seven.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES
Looking ahead in his programme, Coach Nathan Mulligan said:
“Workington have had some mixed results this season but they could be pushing towards the Play-Offs if they string a few wins together.
“As always we expect a tough game but it is one we are looking forward to because we back ourselves at home. We will be looking for three points again to keep us in the Play-Off places.”
