Stockton Town face their toughest test this Pre-Season when they host National League North side Spennymoor Town.

The Anchors have a perfect start to Pre-Season with four wins from four against Consett, Crook Town, West Auckland and Newton Aycliffe.

In Friday night’s 4-0 triumph over Newton Aycliffe there was four different goalscorers as Kev Hayes, Glen Butterworth, Mikey Roberts and Cam Painter all netted.

It meant the goals kept flowing for Michael Dunwell’s men this Pre-Season taking their tally to 14. The defence has proven miserly with just two goals conceded both of which came in a 5-2 win over West Auckland Town.

THE OPPOSITION

Spennymoor Town are currently in their first Pre-Season under the guidance of Graeme Lee. The former Hartlepool United manager was appointed in January 2024 and narrowly missed out on the Play-Offs at the end of last season.

In the transfer market they have made a number of signings. Defender Dan Rowe and attacking midfielder Junior Mondal have both arrived from Whitby. The latter had served as Club Captain for the Seasiders. Defender Dane Burlace and midfielder John Howard have both been signed from Northern League Champions Bishop Auckland. In addition they have also brought in defender Ben Beals who was released from Middlesbrough and defender Nathan McGinley who also played for Middlesbrough before a spell in Scotland.

The Moors have also played four Pre-Season fixtures. On Saturday they succumbed to their first defeat as they went down 2-0 at home to Doncaster Rovers. Prior to that they had secured a trio of wins against lower opposition in a 2-1 win at Marske United, a 5-0 win at Consett and a 1-0 win at Shildon.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Looking ahead to the game, Michael Dunwell said:

“It’s another game building towards that Leek Town game at the start of the season.

“It will be a test and our fitness is getting there. It’ll be like tonight (4-0 win over Newton Aycliffe) where we rotate players.

“We may look at other things against Spennymoor where we won’t have as much of the ball as we have in the previous four games.”
