LIVE COMMENTARY: Anchors Radio (mixlr.com)

Stockton Town return to home action following two successful away outings.

The Anchors made a triumphant return to league action this week as they recorded back-to-back wins at Warrington Rylands and Bamber Bridge.

Michael Dunwell’s men weathered a battle in the first half at Rylands but an inspired debut from new signing Josh Scott saw him score minutes into his debut and go on to assist the other two goals for Michael Sweet and Glen Butterworth.

On Tuesday, everything went right for Stockton as they ran out emphatic 5-1 winners. Michael Sweet helped himself to an early brace before Lucas Weaver pulled a goal back for Bamber Bridge.

However, a penalty from Stephen Thompson coupled with a red card for Brig’s Macauley Wilson swung the game completely in the away side’s favour.

The second half saw substitute Michael Fowler and Scott round off the scoring.

Owen Gallacher will return to the squad after missing Tuesday night due to work, while Shane Henry should be a game time decision. Lewis Leech will once again be missing due to a knee injury.

THE OPPOSITION

Mickleover are back in the Northern Premier League Premier Division following a two-year absence of playing in the Southern Premier Central.

‘Sports’ finished last season in the Play-Offs where they lost out in the Semi-Final to AFC Telford United.

In the off-season long-term manager of eight years John McGrath was replaced by Gareth Holmes who is in his first management job.

Currently they are in the mid-table with 17 points from their first 13 games. Last time out they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Hyde United.

Their away form is markedly better than their home form and they are yet to lose on the road in six games. A 2-0 win at Basford United back in September was their most noteworthy away result.

Forward Dylan Edwards is the man to keep an eye on. The summer signing already has seven goals to his name after making the switch from Loughborough University where he was their all-time top goalscorer.

They have some notable former EFL players in their squad too in Curtis Weton who appeared prominently for Gillingham, Barnet and Chesterfield, and Stuart Beavon most known for his time at Wycombe and Preston North End.

This is the first-ever meeting between Stockton Town and Mickleover.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Looking ahead to the game for his programme notes, Michael Dunwell said:

“Mickleover have had a similar start  to us where they have won a few then lost a few which was similar to Bamber Bridge and such.

“We’re in a good vein of form with some great scoring chances, and more importantly I think we have looked solid at the back.”
