Stockton Town will look to carry Tuesday’s thrill into their meeting with FC United of Manchester.
Frank Nouble popped up with a very late goal for the Anchors to secure a massive three points against Bury on Tuesday night, in a game where defences shined – and a goalless draw looked to be a fair result.
Nouble wonderfully headed in a superb Josh Scott cross to give Stockton a lead after 89 minutes.
Harley Dawson is in line to make his Anchors debut after the midfielder joined the club on a three-month loan from Spennymoor Town on Wednesday.
To say FC have struggled to open their season would be an understatement. After 10 games, last year’s playoff semi-finalists sit bottom of the table with just five points to their name. A 4-1 win over Warrington Town in September is the only victory the supporters have been able to celebrate in the league so far.
Defeat to Alfreton Town last time out added more woes to their start to the season.
However, Mark Beesley’s side do remain in the FA Cup, and had a huge victory against Worksop Town in the last round, beating the Tigers 3-0 away from home – setting up a tie against local National League side Altrincham in the Fourth and final Qualifying Round.
Legendary forward Adam Le Fondre leads the sides in goals, with Jordan Buckley – who was the thorn in the Anchors side in this fixture last year – just behind him.
The last meeting between the two sides was the eventual trip to Broadhurst Park, after seven previous postponements, where Tom Coulthard’s goal secured Stockton a crucial point in the last week of the season, eventually helping them to the playoff positions.
Manager Michael Dunwell looked ahead to the matchup following the delights of Tuesday’s late winner, stating: “When we get the crowd in, and we’re kicking towards that shed, we always want to give them something to sing about…
”We’ve still got a lot to work on and we should be even stronger for the FC game.”
