Stockton Town return to the MAP Group UK Stadium on Saturday with the visit of Curzon Ashton.
The Anchors come into the game after a disappointing Durham Challenge Cup exit at Easington on Tuesday night. Ethan Ord’s goal was enough to settle it in favour of the Northern League side.
It was in stark contrast to what had preceded it in last Saturday’s 5-0 win at Whitby Town. The Anchors were ruthless as they pounced on a lacklustre Whitby performance to take pivotal three points.
Tomorrow’s game is an entirely different test against Curzon Ashton. Everything is on the table for Curzon who are back in NPL for the first time 2015 following relegation from the National League North. Manager Adam Barton, who was appointed in March, has them four points off top and they come with momentum having won their last three games.
Their latest triumph was a 1-0 win at home to FC United of Manchester on Tuesday night.
Despite their lofty position they have lost four games on their travels this season. Most recently in October they lost back-to-back games as they slipped to 5-1 defeat at Warrington Rylands and 1-0 defeat at Whitby Town.
Players to watch for Curzon include striker Brad Holmes who has eight goals on the season. Alex Curran who starred for Macclesfield during their NPL days. Jimmy Spencer is another threat, he played his football in the EFL for Notts County, Cambridge United and Plymouth Argyle among others.
Cam Painter will return to the fold and is in line to make his 200th appearance for Stockton Town.
Looking ahead to the game, Dunwell said: “We’ve got to build on Saturday (5-0 win at Whitby Town) and look to the league. We’ve got to improve our league position.”
“It’s a really tough game against Curzon Ashton and we will make changes from tonight (1-0 loss at Easington)”
Speaking after the win over FC United on Tuesday night, Barton focused on his side’s trip to Teesside: “It will be a completely different task I think. I’ll do my homework on Stockton this week and I know it’s going to be different game.”
Fans are urged to arrive early with the club marking Remembrance Day with the Royal British Legion (RBL) conducting a ceremony ahead of the game. There will be an opportunity to donate to the RBL at the game. Serving Armed Forces and veterans can gain free entry by showing their Armed Forces ID at the gate.
