Stockton Town begin their Durham Challenge Cup campaign when they welcome Crook Town to the MAP Group UK Stadium.

The cup exploits continue for the Anchors who booked their place in the First Round of the FA Trophy on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Blyth Spartans.

September’s Player of the Month Stephen Thompson continued his impressive form with a blockbuster brace in the first half.

Stockton have reached the Quarter Finals of the Durham Challenge in each of the last two seasons. Last year they exited at the hands of the Northern League outfit Whickham.

THE OPPOSITION

Crook Town are managed by Mattie Thompson and currently sit in mid-table in the Northern League Division One having taken 21 points from their first 13 games.

They have picked up some impressive results throughout this season in a 2-1 win at Marske United, a 3-0 win at Guisborough Town and a 1-0 win over Ashington in the FA Cup.

In recent weeks the wins have become hard to come by with their coming on September 7th when they beat Easington 1-0.

Players to watch include former Stockton Town striker Sonni Coleman, ex-Halifax Town player Josh MacDonald and former Shildon player Ben Trotter.

The Black and Ambers have won the Durham Challenge Cup four times, although not since 1960.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Stockton Town and Crook Town have met competitively twice, both in the 2016-17 season.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Looking ahead to the tie, Assistant Manager JD Briggs said:

“As we say every year it’s a competition (Durham Challenge Cup) that we would like to do well and we would like to win.

“Crook are a couple of leagues below but they are going to want to cause an upset and they have nothing to lose, so it will be tough. But I fancy us to win the game and progress in the cup.”
