Stockton Town start a difficult two-game home run by hosting Bury under the lights.

Stockton were left frustrated with a defeat at Hyde United on Saturday, where late heroics from goalkeeper Jordan Eastham kept out efforts from Adam Nicholson and Michael Sweet, solidifying a 2-1 win for the hosts despite Josh Scott’s sixth goal of the season.

Bury, on the other hand, have started life in step three very well following their league title win in the NPL West last season, currently sitting in 8th place with two games in hand on the league leaders.

However, the Shakers haven’t had a league game in nearly a month due to FA Cup and FA Trophy action, in which they remain in both following a 2-1 FA Cup win over Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday.

Bury’s September Player of the Month, Kai Evans, leads the sides in league goals with four to his name, tied with Tom Carr.

The two-time FA Cup winners are managed by Anthony Johnson, who was notably manager of Salford City during the Class of ‘92 takeover, and has managed with Chester, Spennymoor Town and Radcliffe before joining Bury in February, helping them to the title.

Manager Michael Dunwell looked ahead to the matchup following Saturday’s defeat, stating: “There was talk about Bury before the season winning the league with their resources, fanbase and management so it’s a big game for us… Hopefully we get a big crowd in, we’ve been decent at home and hopefully we can create as many chances as we did today [against Hyde] and start putting them away.
