LIVE COMMENTARY: Anchors Radio (mixlr.com)

Stockton Town return to league action on Saturday with the visit of Ashton United.

The Anchors had their winning run halted in midweek when they exited the Durham Challenge Cup to Northern League outfit Shildon.

Two Adam Lennox penalties put the Railwaymen two up before Lewis Leech pulled one back when he reacted to Michael Fowler’s missed penalty. However Stockton hope was short lived as Ben Reay added a third for Shildon.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the game as the club marks Remembrance. A short pre-match ceremony will take place with members of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and players from our junior section. There will also be a donation bucket and we actively encourage fans to donate if they are able to.

THE OPPOSITION

Ashton United are currently managed by Steve Cunningham who is in his second full season at the helm. Last season he guided the Robins to a 7th-place finish which was their highest since relegation from the National League North in 2019.

This season they again are in the hunt for the Play-Offs and currently occupy 8th where they lie three points and a game in hand from 6th-place Ilkeston Town.

Although their aspirations have taken a slight jolt in recent weeks as they remain without victory in the league since September 17th when they beat Matlock Town 3-2.

Last Saturday they earned a credible point on the road with a 1-1 draw at Hyde United.

The main players to watch for Ashton are former South Shields duo Darius Osei and Jason Gilchrist. The pair have 20 goals between them with ten a piece.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Focusing on the game, Assistant Manager JD Briggs said:

“Ashton will be a really tough game. They are a really decent team and they have just drawn with Hyde who gave us our biggest loss of the season.

“Although they (Ashton) haven’t won lately I would expect them to come here and be difficult to beat.”
