Stockton Town are on their travels for the first time this Pre-Season when they make the trip to Morpeth Town.

Despite taking the lead in Wednesday night’s friendly with Boro Rangers, the Anchors fell to a 3-1 defeat. There was a familiar name on the scoresheet as former Anchor, Louie Hall, netted the equaliser for the visitors.

It was a game that was sharp contrast from creditable 1-1 draw with National League North Scarborough Athletic last Saturday.

Since that game, Stockton Town have found out their fixtures for the upcoming campaign. Like last season, it begins at home this time against Stocksbridge Park Steels. The first away game is a particularly stern test against North East rivals Hebburn Town.

THE OPPOSITION

Morpeth Town ended last season just three points above the bottom three and narrowly avoided relegation to the Northern Premier League East division.

The Highwaymen did cap off the season on a high by winning the Northumberland Senior Cup following a 2-0 win over Blyth Spartans.

They started Pre-Season with a 2-0 win over North Shields on Wednesday evening thanks to goal from Jack Foalie and another from a trialist.

In the transfer market they have added Vinnie Steels, who featured against Stockton Town last season for Shildon. Danny Barlow who recently departed Blyth Spartans. Most recently they have brought in defender Liam Miller from Guisborough Town.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Looking ahead to the game, Manager Michael Dunwell said:

“It’s a really good set up there and the pitch is supposed to be excellent. So really looking forward to it and hopefully we can get back to the levels we did against Scarborough.

“This is what Pre-Season is for, to iron out the mistakes. We have to be better on the ball like we were against Scarborough.”
