Stockton Town are back on the road on Tuesday as they make the trip to Giant Axe to face Lancaster City.
The Anchors twice came from behind with ten men to earn a valuable point at home to FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
In a game delayed by traffic issues affecting FC United of Manchester, Stockton Town put in a below par first half performance and found themselves a goal down and a man light after Stephen Thompson was shown a straight red card for a late challenge.
Michael Dunwell’s men rallied and levelled from the penalty spot through Josh Scott. The visitors regained the lead with a penalty of their own, but Adam Nicholson popped up with an equaliser to secure a point.
It’s straight back to action with a trip to Lancaster City who are currently occupying midtable. The Dolly Blues are yet to build on last season’s 6th place finish which was their highest since returning to the NPL Premier in 2017.
Incumbent Jimmy Marshall, who hails from Lancaster, did exceptionally well to lead Lancaster to just a point off the Play Offs, a single place behind the Anchors.
The former Kendal boss has made the step up from Step 5 seamlessly. On Saturday they secured a 2-2 draw at Warrington Town, which was a positive reaction to the 5-3 defeat at Avro last Wednesday night.
It’s a largely similar Lancaster City side which the Anchors have faced in their last couple of years in the NPL Premier. The Bailey brothers remain influential, Charlie has hit form in recent weeks with three goals in his last four.
Young dual registration signing from Southport Jules Flanagan has also impressed with his adaptability in his opening two starts at the club.
The main dangerman is Steven Yawson, the forward bagged ten last season in his first season at the club. This term he has three with his latest coming midweek at Avro.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s task, JD Briggs said in his interview: “Lancaster is not going to be an easy game, especially going there on a Tuesday. They are a really good team and it will be really difficult. But we’re building on something and today’s point (2-2 v FC United) keeps us moving in the right direction.”
Jimmy Marshall also looked ahead: “We know Stockton are good. They’ve picked up. Mick (Michael Dunwell) is a good manager and he’s done a great job at Stockton over the last few years, so we know it will be hard.”
