Stockton Town head to Gainsborough Trinity following their first point of the season on Saturday.
The Anchors drew 1-1 with Leek Town at the weekend, ending a short run of losses to open the campaign. Josh Scott scored a penalty in the first-half but it was quickly nullified by a quality finish from Adam Porter.
Gainsborough, on the other hand, have started with two wins and a defeat, following an immense 3-0 victory at FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
Russ Wilcox’s squad is similar to those that have caused Stockton plenty of problems in their four meetings over the years, with midfielder Lewis Butroid now the leader of the squad, and key players such as Harrison Beeden, George Hornshaw and Fraser Preston surrounding him.
However, Wilcox suffered two blows in summer, losing star forwards Frank Mulhern, Jonathan Margetts and Sisi Tuntalwana. This has provided a successful return for Theo Williams up front who found the target on Saturday, as well as traditional defender Ashton Offler next to him, who has two goals to his name already this campaign.
Looking ahead to the test, Assistant Manager JD Briggs stated: “it’s always a very tough place against a very good team, but we’re a very good team as well… it’ll be tough but we’ll enjoy the ride down there and try and win the game.”
