Stockton Town have no time to dwell on Saturday’s defeat against Carlton Town as a short trip to Consett awaits on Easter Monday.

Two second half goals sunk Stockton to their first home league defeat of the season which assistant manager JD Briggs described as the sides’ ‘poorest performance of the season.

Five games remain in the 2023/24 season, with the Anchors still sitting top of the table on 70 points.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Stockton and Consett are no strangers, having met 13 times since 2017, which include some historical encounters over the years. The previous meeting between the two sides was on Boxing Day where the Anchors overturned a 2-1 disadvantage to win 3-2 on the afternoon.

Here are the results from the previous five games between the sides:

22 Sep 2020- Consett AFC 1-0 Stockton Town- FA Cup First Qualifying Round

10 Oct 2020- Stockton Town 4-1 Consett AFC- Northern League Division One

26 Dec 2022- Stockton Town 1-2 Consett AFC- Northern Premier League East Division

10 Apr 2023- Consett AFC 3-4 Stockton Town- Northern Premier League East Division

FORM GUIDE

Stockton Town: L W W D L Last Game:

Stockton Town 0-2 Carlton Town

Consett: L D W L L

Last Game: North Ferriby 3-2 Consett

THE OPPOSITION

The Steelmen are currently in their second season in the Northern Premier League East Division after promotion through the playoffs in 2022.

Despite the form guide not being in Consett’s favour, with only four points collected in their last six games, Tony Fawcett’s side are always tough to take down on the 3G at Belle View.

The County Durham-based side are the home to some very talented and experienced players. Forward Wil Shaw has 13 goals to his name so far this season, including one in the reverse fixture against the Anchors back in December.

With the Steelmen currently sitting in eighth place, eight points behind fifth placed Pontefract Collieries, their name remains an option in the playoff race so every remaining match matters for them.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Assistant manager JD Briggs looked ahead to the clash against Consett when speaking to Anchors TV after Saturday’s defeat and he said: “We have to really feel the hurt of the loss today [against Carlton] and not let that happen again and we have to go and win the game. Not draw or not play well and lose, we have to go and win the game convincingly.”
