Stockton Town will face Chester again on Tuesday night in an FA Cup replay.

Stephen Thompson’s stunning goal shortly after the hour mark looked like it had given the Anchors a ‘Cupset’ over their National North opponents.

However Connell Rawlinson’s stoppage time header forced a replay at the Deva Stadium.

It is the Anchors first FA Cup replay since August 2019 when they earned their first victory in the competition with a 5-1 triumph over Nostell Miners Welfare.

Michael Dunwell will have Captain Adam Nicholson back available for selection. Nicholson has missed the last four games due to suspension and being away.

THE OPPOSITION

Chester need no introduction after facing Stockton Town on Saturday. The Seals are second in the National League North and are highly fancied for promotion to the National League.

They have been in excellent form of late and are unbeaten in their last eight outings including Saturday. Connell Rawlinson’s late header saved them from their first defeat since mid August when they lost to Brackley Town.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The two sides of course met on Saturday when they played out a score draw.

THE OPPOSITION VIEW

Touching on Saturday’s game, Chester Manager Calum McIntyre said;

“What a goal to put us 1-0 behind, proper FA Cup stuff.

“Our performance in the main was okay. Good in patches but really poor in front of goal.  That’s why we go to a replay.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday night, McIntyre said: “We will value being the draw on Monday afternoon and value our place in the competition.”

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Looking ahead to the game, Michael Dunwell said:

“We’re excited. It’s a great ground to go to and a great opportunity to see if we can go and cause an upset which we nearly did today (Saturday).
