Stockton Town are set for their first away trip in nearly a month with a long trip south to visit Basford United.
The Anchors suffered their second defeat of the week after a disappointing 2-1 loss against Ashton United on Saturday.
Glen Butterworth opened the scoring early in the second half, but missed opportunities to add a second proved crucial as two goals within two minutes quickly turned the game on its head, and it was the visitors who left Stockton with all three points.
THE OPPOSITION
The Nottingham-based side currently sit 12th in the standings with 19 points from their opening 16 games, after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.
In March of 2024, after a successful, nearly 30-year long playing career, manager Martin Carruthers returned to the club in which he ended his playing days back in 2019. He successfully secured their survival last season and is now looking to make that next step forward, with his side only eight points outside of the playoffs.
Long-term EFL veteran forward Ash Chambers has shined for the Lions so far this season. The former England-youth international only joined the club in summer and has made an immediate impact, with nine goals already to his name so far this season.
Basford skipper Matt Thornhill also boasts vast experience. The 36-year-old spent time at Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion, amongst others, before joining United in 2017.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES
Stockton Town manager Michael Dunwell spoke following his side’s defeat against Ashton United at the weekend by saying:
“It’s just another game. Yeah, it’s a long trip on a Tuesday, but that’s what we’ve got to do, that’s why we want to play in these leagues. The higher you go, the travel gets longer so it’s not a problem for us.
“We’ll go there, not feeling too down after what was a fine performance [against Ashton], and even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, that’s just football. I was pleased with the performance.”
