Stockton Town will play two games in 48 hours this weekend, looking for their first away victory of the season at Avro before hosting Redcar Athletic in a Teesside derby on Monday.
Stockton were well-beaten against a constant-flowing Guiseley side on Tuesday evening, falling to a 3-0 defeat on the road.
The loan signing of Gateshead youngster Callum Bone was announced prior to Tuesday’s game, and he saw 58 minutes of action in West Yorkshire, catching the eye of the travelling supporters.
Both Avro and Redcar Athletic are new to the NPL Premier Division following promotions last year, Avro through the West Division playoffs and Redcar dominating the East Division, scoring over 100 goals and picking up over 100 points en-route to the title.
Despite their recent promotions, both sides have started their 2026/27 season incredibly well. Avro, who lost their star striker Kyle Hawley to Radcliffe in the summer, sit second in the table with 13 points to their name.
Redcar aren’t too far behind, still unbeaten in 5th place with 12 points.
Both sides boast incredible attacking prowess, with Avro forward Harry Salt, topping the scoring standings so far with five goals, and Redcar star Adam Boyes just behind him on four.
Speaking after Tuesday’s defeat, Michael Dunwell previewed the weekend-double by stating: “Nothing is won or lost in August, but we’ve got to quickly turn this poor spell around because the longer it goes on, the harder it is to get out of it – but we believe we can and we’ll keep going.”
