Stockton Town make the short trip to South Tyneside this Saturday when they take on fellow North East side, Hebburn Town.

The Anchors will look to extend their winning run to three games and their overall unbeaten run to six matches with a result at Hebburn.

Stockton won a closely-fought game with Brighouse Town, 3-2, last Saturday. Alfie Conway was gifted the first due to the misfortune of Brighouse goalkeeper, Brett Souter, before Brighouse levelled through Laurence Sorhaindo.

Michael Dunwell’s made it 3-1 in the second half through Kevin Hayes and Nathan Steel, and that was enough for the points as Shiraz Khan’s goal for Brighouse proved to be a consolation – a win that was enough to move the Anchors into play-off places.

The trip to Hebburn Town is kicking off at an earlier time of 1pm due to the floodlight damage suffered at the Green Energy Sports Ground during Storm Arwen.

MILESTONES

  • Jamie Owens (98) needs two goals to hit a century of strikes for the Anchors

THE OPPOSITION

Hebburn Town are sitting 16th in the Northern Premier League East Division with 16 points from their 16 games.

In their last game they managed to pick up their first win since mid-October. Second half goals from Ollie Martin and Robbie Spence gave the Hornets a 2-0 win at Cleethorpes Town.

That stopped a run of five-straight defeats in all competitions for the Hornets.

It also gave them an even-spread of two wins at home and two wins away for their four triumphs this campaign.

Striker Connor Bell is the man to watch out for Hebburn Town. The former Dunston man has netted seven times this season, including an equalising goal in Stockton Town’s 2-1 win over the Hornets in the reverse fixture.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Speaking after the 2-0 at Cleethorpes Town, Assistant Manager Mick Mulhern said: “We have got to work hard again next week against a team who, let’s be honest, over the last two years were probably the best team in the Northern League.

“In the first year when Covid stopped the league they were running away with it – they were miles ahead, so we know we are in for a tough challenge and it is back to working hard.”

PRE-MATCH QUOTES

Speaking after the 3-2 win over Brighouse Town, Manager Michael Dunwell said: “We never go anywhere just to shut up shop and get a point. We go into every match looking to get three points whether that is at the bottom teams or at the top teams and that will be our plan next week.

“Hebburn have had a good win today so that will give them a lift because they were having a bit of a bad run but we know Hebburn have got quality all over the pitch and eventually the results will turn.

“They have had a great win at Cleethorpes today, so we know we’re in for a tough test. But we should have Tom Portas back next week who was missing today, so we should have a full squad.”
