Lewis King provided his assessment following the Anchors’ 1-0 victory at FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
‘Kingy’ opened by exclaiming his delight over the three points: “We all know by now that every away game in this league is really difficult, so to come here, in front of a massive crowd and get an early goal, to then defend it as well as we did, it’s a huge credit to the lads and I do think we thoroughly deserved our three points.”
Over 150 Anchors fans made their voices heard over a large home support, which Lewis credits by saying: “The away fans were unbelievable. You saw them behind the goal when we took the lead and they’ve stayed in the big group at the other end in the second half and seeing them all clapping us off was brilliant. It obviously helps the lads massively to get over the line and pickup three points when we need it most.”
Normally a right-back, Lewis has been shining in a midfield role as of late, which he describes by saying: “I’m enjoying it, I feel like my attributes work well in that position, and it is going well at the minute, but at the same time, that comes down to the other 10 on the pitch, everyone is playing well and as long as we pick up three points, I don’t mind where I play.”
Lewis then further credits his teammates after the squad won its fifth game out of the last six on Saturday: “The chemistry is brilliant. We knew what we were capable of at the start of the season but I don’t think many other teams were expecting us to be where we are, but all we can do now is keep ticking games off, there is a great camaraderie between us all and we’re looking forward to these final five games.”
He closed by looking ahead to Saturday’s crucial clash with second-placed Worksop Town by saying: “Make no bones about it, they are one of the best teams in the league, and we will show them that respect but making sure we don’t show them too much respect, we’ll just go about our game and hopefully stamp our authority on the game. They have won nine in a row so it’s going to be extremely difficult, but if we can get another big crowd in, anything can happen.”
