Get To Know: Layton Watts

Learn all you need to know about our first summer addition, Layton Watts.

Despite being a Sunderland supporter, Watts is a product of Middlesbrough’s youth academy, spending a majority of his junior days growing through the age groups, eventually finishing at U21 level, playing alongside the likes of Hayden Hackney and Sol Brynn during his time there.

Following his departure from Boro in 2020, the now 25-year-old had a successful stint with Sunderland RCA in the Northern League, before attracting a move to Whitby Town, but was held back by the chaotic COVID seasons.

After a couple of moves across the Northern League, Layton found his feet at this years opponents, Redcar Atheltic, where he thrived in the 2023/24 season.

Following that season, the creative midfielder joined West Auckland Town, forming an exceptional duo with none other than current Anchor Josh Scott, where he departed a few weeks after Josh, making the move to the NPL to re-join Whitby.

Since then, Layton Watts has been a man to watch on the East coast, with his speed and ball control causing problems for all teams in the league, including a couple of games against the Anchors in that time.

Now, he looks to make that same impact at Michael Dunwell, as the ambition for next season is as clear as always. Supporters can purchase their season tickets to enjoy 21 home games from Layton and the team, by clicking here.
