Butterworth hails ‘electric atmosphere’

Stockton Town midfielder Glen Butterworth has hailed the ‘electric atmosphere’ surrounding the team during their seven-game winning streak.

Butterworth, who has recently passed his two-year anniversary since becoming an Anchor, has played an integral part as Stockton won all but one of their games throughout the month of October.

“The atmosphere around the team is electric at the moment, the lads are buzzing and I think that’s transferring onto the pitch,” Butterworth said glowingly.

A big factor behind Stockton’s current impressive run has been the arrival of Josh Scott. Since signing from West Auckland, the forward has been in clinical form with five goals in his first five games.

It is a move that motivated the rest of the squad, as Butterworth acknowledges: “I think the competition in the team has given everyone an extra boost.

“We are scoring goals all over the park and are defending well.”

It may be cliche but the recent return of Kev Hayes was labelled as like a ‘new signing’ and understandably so given the mercurial winger was the club’s top scorer last season.

It is exciting to add him to the mix to an outfit which has been in free flowing form of late.

“We all know what Kev brings to the team, he’s sometimes the difference between losing games and winning games with his moments of magic,” Butterworth said.

“I am sure he will continue to get more minutes and I can’t wait for him to be fully fit.”

If Stockton Town are to make it eight wins in a row and extend their streak into November then they will need to be on top form again as Matlock Town are the visitors.

After a poor start to the campaign, the Gladiators have improved drastically since former Sheffield FC manager Ryan Cresswell took the reins. He has steered them from bottom to sitting outside of the bottom four. On Tuesday night they pushed league leaders Macclesfield all the way before falling to a 3-2 defeat.

Despite that recent up turn, Butterworth is unfazed: “We are expecting a very tough game. However, we are at home and teams find it difficult coming here, especially with our fans.
