Anchors triumph at Crook Town

The Anchors got more important minutes in their legs in a 3-0 victory at Northern League Crook Town.

Another superb second half performance saw Michael Sweet, Jacob Johnson and Jack Spears fire in the goals for Stockton.

Michael Dunwell again drizzled new signings and trialists into a squad of many familiar faces to open the game

.Michael Fowler nearly found the opener ten minutes into the game when he ended a counter attack with a shot very well stopped by the young Crook goalkeeper.

A few home fans thought their side had taken a lead after 25 minutes, but a header from inside the box rattled off the post.

Cameron Painter had a huge chance before the break when a fumbled catch from the goalkeeper fell back to him, but his effort was heroically cleared off the line.

Nathan Harker was called into action on a number of occasions in the first half, but was equal to all of the hosts’ opportunities.

Michael Dunwell made a vast number of changes at the interval, including giving more trialists and academy talents a chance to show their abilities.

After 60 minutes, the Anchors found themselves ahead when Lewis King beautifully disguised a through ball towards Michael Sweet who finished coolly.

Sweet was denied a second a few moments later with some excellent defending, and at the other end, Stockton’s trialist goalkeeper was equal to a dangerous opportunity.

Five minutes from the closure of the game, the Anchors’ lead was doubled when goalscorer Michael Sweet powered a cut-back across the box which was marvellously met by a sliding Jacob Johnson.

Two minutes later, Johnson’s academy teammate Jack Spears added to his pre-season tally by converting a fine cross from new addition Owen Gallacher.
