Anchors produce five-star performance to secure place in Durham Challenge Cup Quarter Finals

Stockton Town produced a commanding performance to book their place in the Durham Challenge Cup Quarter Finals with victory at Sunderland RCA.

Nathan Mulligan’s penalty along with goals from Mikey Roberts and Kevin Hayes put the Anchors three to the good at half-time.

In the second half Elliott Beddow netted and Alex Nelson put into his own net for RCA to add gloss to the scoreline.

Manager Michael Dunwell made six changes to the team that beat Sheffield FC 6-0 on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Lewis McDonald was reinstated. The outfield saw Louie Hall, Cameron Painter, Dale Mulligan, Nathan Mulligan and Mikey Roberts all put into the starting XI.

Just under a quarter hour into the game, Stockton had the lead when they were awarded a penalty after a foul by Mark Davison in the area. Nathan Mulligan converted the spot kick.

Shortly after half hour mark the Anchors doubled their lead when Mikey Roberts finished off a nice move.

It was three just minutes later when Hayes produced a brilliant finish into the top right corner.

RCA had their first chance when Davison put a scuffed effort towards goal which was easily gathered by Lewis McDonald.

Ten minutes into the second half Stockton had a fourth when Beddow got in behind rounded the goalkeeper and tucked home.

The fifth goal came not long after the hour mark when a right wing cross was put into his own net by defender Nelson.

That was end of the scoring as Stockton cruised into the Quarter Finals of the Durham Challenge Cup.

Next up for Stockton Town is a trip to Grimsby Borough in the league this coming Saturday.
