Anchors defeated at Morpeth Town in friendly

Stockton Town went down 2-0 at Northern Premier League Premier Division side Morpeth Town in a pre-season friendly.

The visitors had the first chance of the game, with Mikey Roberts striking into the turf and wide of the post. Morpeth took the lead two minutes later through Connor Thomson.

Stockton continued to hold their own, with Kev Hayes and Liam Cooke drawing good saves out of ‘keeper Dan Lowson.

Dale Pearson went close for the hosts on 36 minutes. The striker had an effort saved by Callum Roberts before firing over the rebound.

Chris Reid’s long ball over the top undone the Stockton back line on 44 minutes, with Jack Foalle bursting through on goal and slotting home.

The visitors had a huge penalty appeal waved away by the referee just after the hour mark, with Elliott Beddow ready to pull the trigger before his heels were clipped.

Both M.Roberts and Nathan Mulligan went close in the final stages, but it ended in defeat for Stockton in Northumberland.

Next up for the Anchors is a trip to Norton & Stockton Ancients on Wednesday evening before their final friendly of the summer against Manchester Gregorians on Saturday.
