Captain Adam Nicholson believes the opening day draw with Stocksbridge Park Steels was a fair result.Â
The Anchors twice came from behind equalising at the end of both halves through Mikey Roberts and Michael Fowler on his debut.
It was a meeting against an opponent the Anchors had knocked out of the Play-Offs just at the end of April.
Reflecting on the game, Nicholson said: “Today’s game was probably a fair result. It was a difficult start against an organised side.
“I was disappointed with some of the goals we conceded, but we did well to get back on level terms twice. We have got to learn from the goals and the chances we created and take the positives into Tuesday.”
The game saw the Stockton have three debutants in the line-up with Niall Frampton given the start in goal, loanee Jonny Haase at left-back and Fowler led the line.
There was also a debut for striker Michael Sweet who came from the bench and almost marked his debut with goal late in the second half.
On the new signings, Nicholson said: “I thought Michael Fowler was superb today, he offers something different to what we’ve had and deserved his well taken goal.”
“Niall and Jonny are two young lads who will grow into the season and I thought both of them done well on debut. Sweet looked dangerous when he came on too.”
Stockton Town now head to Hebburn Town on Tuesday night, it was a ground they lost twice at last season as they went down 3-1 in the FA Trophy and 2-0 in the league fixtures.
The Hornets started the campaign off well too with a 4-0 thrashing of Grantham Town.
Looking ahead, Nicholson said: Hebburn is another tough game and I expect them to be right up there this year.
“We lost twice at their place last season so we’re looking forward to putting right last years wrongs and get three points.”
