Last Saturday’s victory over Consett marked the Anchors 500th competitive game since joining the Wearside League in 2010-11 season.
The very first match was a 1-0 away defeat to Ryhope CW and we finished a creditable 10th after a shaky start, no-one could imagine what the next 10 years would hold.
Since that day we’ve come a very long way, built a new ground, won 5 League Championships, played in 10 Cup Finals, (winning 5) including a little trip to Wembley in the FA Vase Final 2018.
There are a couple of interesting stats too…….
We hold the record Away victory on our own ground, at the end of the 2015-16 season in the very first match played on our brand new 3G pitch, we played Horden CW in the Wearside League, it was officially Hordens home game but their ground wasn’t available so it marked the opening of our new facility, we won 6-0 and that’s a record for an away victory at BRW. Incidentally the record home win of 8-0 has been recorded twice against Annfield Plain and Penrith, just last season.
Also, amazingly we have only had one goalless draw, at home, in those 500 games, it was against Darlington Cleveland Bridge on 26/11/2011 and we’ve played 215 home games since that, lets hope that isn’t tempting fate for Saturday.
The full official record is as follows :
Thanks to Paul ‘Statto’ Beards our Club Historian for this little tit bit. Here’s a potted history in photos……..
