Stockton Town return home for league action to host Bamber Bridge in the NPL’s only game of the day.
Stockton picked up their first away point of the season last week, when Frank Nouble’s penalty nullified Harrison Wood’s opener, but the Anchors were left frustrated with the result, showcasing a strong performance against 10-men.
With FA Cup games containing other NPL clubs, the match is the only game in the league, meaning a win for Stockton would guarantee they finish the weekend out of the drop zone.
Although Bamber Bridge have not beaten Stockton before, the Anchors have only won one of their four meetings, with that coming away from home back in 2024.
Brig have had a difficult start to the season themselves, sitting just outside the relegation zone on nine points, but did pick up an important win against Alfreton Town last weekend thanks to James Butterworth’s late goal.
Despite losing his star striker Ewan Bange in summer to Warrington Town, manager Jamie Milligan has recently made some impressive recruitments, the one of note being winger Tom Barkhuizen, who drops into non-league for the first time in his career after a very strong EFL career, mainly in the Championship with Preston.
On Friday, they boosted their squad further with the experienced Charlie Ennis, who left FC United of Manchester a couple of weeks ago after a lengthy spell there.
Manager Michael Dunwell looked ahead to the matchup, stating: “Our performances are improving but we’re still not winning. When we start finishing the chances we’re creating, that’s when everything will start to pick up, but we have to do it sooner rather than later.”
