Stockton Town host NPL East new-boys Guisborough Town to open their preseason schedule.
Guisborough earned promotion to the NPL East Division last season in immense fashion, picking up 94 points, winning 30 of 36 games in the Northern League.
Jaedon Faulkner and Thomas Birtles, who both were retained by the Anchors in summer, played their part in the Priorymen’s title-winning campaign, with the latter playing a vast majority of their games whilst on loan.
Former Anchor Elliott Beddow is also in the midst of a successful spell in North Yorkshire. He scored 11 goals in 42 matches, forming a strong partnership with Matty Wilshaw, and both forwards were retained for Nathan Haslam’s upcoming campaign.
Haslam, the former Whitby Town boss, has been busy in the transfer market, bringing in a lot of professional experience to help their squad face the challenge of the NPL.
Veteran defender Kallum Griffiths was signing number one – who has experience with York City and Gateshead to name a couple. He was followed by more experience in the likes of former Harrogate Town midfielder Soni Fergus, and ex-Hartlepool forward Connor Simpson.
Leo Robinson became the most recent addition, who played against the Anchors on a number of occasions during his Hebburn Town days, and was a nominee for Northern League Young Player of the Year for his performances with fellow promoted side West Auckland Town last season.
This game is the first for both sides in their pre-season campaigns, and a good test will be expected. For the Anchors, it will be the first chance to see new signings Layton Watts, Aaron Brown, Frank Nouble and Paul Rooney in action as they kickstart the seven-game pre-season stretch.
The teams met in pre-season a year ago, where a brace from Josh Baggs saw the Anchors win 2-0 at home.
