MATCH REPORT

Warrington Town v Stockton Town FC

Goals from Chris Doyle and Niall Watson towards the end of both halves handed Warrington the win.

Michael Dunwell was forced into one change from the side which beat Hebburn Town on penalties in the Durham Challenge Cup as Arjun Purewal came in for the suspended Adam Nicholson.

Stockton controlled the game well in the opening exchanges, but were only unable to create anything of real substance.

Close to the half hour mark they broke forward on a three on two, but Josh Scott couldn’t find Michael Sweet.

Warrington had a quality chance on 37 minutes, but Watson was denied one-on-one by Nathan Harker.

The Yellows took the lead just two minutes shy of half time when the two Doyle’s combined. Jack Doyle’s free-kick was turned in by Chris Doyle.

Half-Time: Warrington Town 1-0 Stockton Town

Shortly before the hour mark, Hayes had Stockton’s first real effort of the second half when he cut inside and sent a low shot just wide of the near post.

Michael Dunwell then made three changes in a hunt to get back into the game. Amar Purewal, Owen Gallacher and Jaedon Faulkner came on for Stephen Thompson, Josh Scott and Michael Sweet.

It was the hosts who came close to doubling their lead though, Reece Daley crashed an effort against the post when he was found on the left. Then Jay Harris saw his header hit the post after he connected with a ball from the right.

Substitute Amar Purewal had a couple of decent chances. First he turned and his effort was straight at goalkeeper Liam Isherwood. Then he dragged a shot wide from outside the box.

Stockton continued to push for the leveller, Faulkner went close when the ball found him in the box but he flicked his strike wide.

From the resulting goal kick, Isherwood smashed it up the pitch and it found a route to Watson who converted past Harker to seal the points.

Full-Time: Warrington Town 2-0 Stockton Town
