Callum Roberts believes Stockton Town’s tie away to National League North side Curzon Ashton is what the Emirates FA Cup is all about.
The Anchors have made it to this stage of the FA Cup before, in the 2019/20 season when they eventually lost 1-0 away to National League North outfit Guiseley.
Michael Dunwell’s side have seen off both Ossett United and Sunderland RCA to reach this stage, and they take on Steve Cunningham’s side, who currently side fourth in the National League North table.
Big players step up in big games, as the saying goes, and goalkeeper Roberts believes the Anchors will go down to Curzon Ashton and won’t be just making up the numbers.
“I think it’s a good draw for the club,” said Roberts. “It’s another club that we, as a club, haven’t played before and that’s what the FA Cup is all about.
“Ideally, we would have liked to have been at home this time, because we want as many fans as we can behind us, cheering us on, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened.
“For the fans that will make the trip down to Manchester for the game, I know the lads will appreciate every single one of you, and the fact that people have gone out of their way to be there.
“It’ll be a great experience and I know us lads won’t be there just to make the numbers up.”
Stockton will make the trip to Tameside Stadium on Saturday 18 September. Details about the supporters coach will be announced in due course.
