Stockton Town were honoured at last night’s North East Football Writers’ Awards ceremony in recognition of last season’s historic promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
It’s a day that will live long in the memory of Stockton Town fans as the Anchors came back against the odds to beat Dunston on penalties.
The Anchors are reaping the benefits of that promotion this season as they are currently vying for Play-Off place in their debut season in the NPL Premier Division.
“It’s brilliant to represent the club like this at such a prestigious awards ceremony with the people who are watching. It was a very proud moment for not just the club but myself as well and it’s thoroughly deserved,” Michael Dunwell said speaking with North East Football Writer Mark Carruthers.
It’s the culmination of the steady rise of Stockton Town which has taken them from Step 7 football in the Wearside League to Step 3 football within eight years.
A growth that has seen the club become the dominant force of the local Teesside Non League scene.
Dunwell added: “The club’s just growing year by year at a pace that’s suitable to the financial capabilities that we have and we’re not getting too ahead of ourselves in that,
“I think you can get wrapped up in spending too much and we have seen that many times with clubs in our area which is unfortunate. We just have to look after ourselves and do it in the right way.”
Stockton will continue their pursuit of the NPL Play-Offs when they return to action on Saturday 15th March with a trip to Ashton United.
